*Pailton Parish Council held their monthly meeting on November 7th at the Village Hall with four councillors present and the county councillor and 5 members of the public in attendance. During the open part of the meeting a discussion took place about a complaint received from a local resident about the perceived danger caused by the traffic chicane on Coventry Road. It had been suggested that a pedestrian barrier might improve the situation but the council felt that such a feature would tend to urbanise the area. It was decided to defer the subject of traffic matters to a future meeting. An illustrated report on this same topic appeared in the Rugby Advertiser on November 24th.
Later in the meeting when traffic matters were discussed, a suggestion that double white lines should be requested through the village centre would be forwarded to the county council traffic group. It was also announced that the 20mph sign by No. 20 Lutterworth Road is to be removed.
Amongst correspondence received were a letter from the Counsel of Older Residents asking parish councils to consider joining their organisation, also a circular from Rugby Art Gallery & Museum offering free entertainment for village events next year.
The Chairman informed the meeting that the Parish Plan was progressing well and that a format of the plan will be included in the village website.
Cllr A. Gillias informed the meeting that the refurbishment of the war memorial was now completed with the illumination in place. He also stated that he has written to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for a commemorative fly-past during their flights planned for next year, if possible on St. George’s day on 23rd. April.
Much credit was extended to Mr. David Collins of Stretton under Fosse for his recently published history of the men of Pailton who gave their lives during the two world wars.
Cllr Mrs.A Moss reported that the parish footpaths were all in good condition and all agreed that the parish council should join the Countryside Recreation P3 scheme.
The various cost items for next year’s parish precept were discussed and it was decided that the precept should remain at the current figure of £5,000.
The next meeting will be held on Monday 5th. December at 7.70pm in the village hall.
On Saturday evening, 26th November another ‘Live & Local’ presentation took place at the village hall featuring the Latin American group ‘Caliche’ who provided a lively and enjoyable programme titled ‘A magical tour of the Andes’. A comfortably large audience had assembled from the neighbourhood and afar to greet the four performers now based in Birmingham but originating from Peru, Ecuador and Chile. The musicians played on a variety of traditional instruments ranging from guitars, flutes, pan pipes, goats hooves even the lower jaw of a donkey while giving a fascinating account of the origins of the tunes and the customs of the inhabitants of that distant continent. During the interval an opportunity was given for the audience to examine the various instruments which some of them were invited to play in accompaniment of some of the most lively numbers later in the evening. A stall of Latin American handicrafts was available for purchase along with recordings of their indigenous music. Booklets on display gave a pictorial account of the people of the Andes which is issued to schools in the Midlands by the group. The entertainment was accompanied by a grand raffle and refreshments organised by the Village Trust committee.

The Church of St. Denis held its first Advent service of Morning Praise on Sunday 27th. November. The service was conducted by Ruth Bilson and Richard Latham.
