Pailton Fundraiser

August 26th, 2008

On Sunday 24th August, Pailton branch of Rugby Conservative Association held one of their principal fund raising activities of the season in the form of a grand barbecue combined with a clay pigeon shoot.

The event was staged at the spacious grounds of Fairfield House, by the kind permission of the owner, Mr. Peter Stevenson.  Although the day had dawned with light rainfall it was soon overtaken by warm sunshine which added much pleasure to this well attended function.   As well as a delicious barbecued lunch with drinks, members and guests were able to enjoy rides on the miniature railway surrounding the large lake in the grounds, also the rare experience of cruising around the lake in a classic steam-propelled boat.

A clay shooting contest took place in the back ground which proved an exciting activity for the many who participated.   Contestants of all ages took part in the competition with some of the younger novices showing unexpected expertise at breaking the fast moving targets.  The trophy for the highest score was awarded to Phillip Morris-Jones with Rafael LeCornu and Adrian Wilkins achieving joint second place.

The event concluded with a traditional raffle and a vote of thanks to the hosts and organisers by branch chairholder, Kay Pechal.

All agreed that this had been a particularly enjoyable occasion as well as one of the most successful fund raising events of the year.
