Open Gardens

On Sunday 18th June the village staged a grand open-gardens event in order to raise funds for St. Denis Church. A circuit of twelve gardens of varying sizes were placed on display all beautifully tended by their talented and artistic owners. The variety of style and wealth of colour drew flattering admiration from the many visitors all bonded by an affection for traditional English gardens.

The tour commenced at the car park in Coventry Road and progressed along each of the three main roads through the village with each garden offering their own particular attractions. At St Denis Church an exhibition of quilts and a stall offering homemade preserves provided an additional attraction to the beholders.

During the tour the visitors were made welcome at the village hall where tea and cakes were served by members of the Village Trust. An exhibition of Pailton in former times also photographs of the recent refurbishment of the war memorial and its recent service of dedication provided added attractions to the visitors while enjoying their refreshments. After completion of the tour the visitors were invited to make purchases from a plant stall at the village hall which would provide mementoes of their enjoyable day in Pailton.

The considerable effort extended by all involved in the event produced a gratifying income in excess of £700 of which £50 was allocated to the Village Trust in appreciation of their help in making the day a such a resounding success.
