Pailton Fete Preparations

The Pailton Fete Committee under the chairmanship of Stuart Le Cornu met on Monday 19th May.

This meeting took the form of an update on all the many facets which make up the planning of a well established village fete.

The Bilton Silver Band has agreed to entertain us again with their varied and highly enjoyable musical interlude. The bouncy castle is ordered, the coconut shy organised,  catapults prepared and skittles assembled. A member of he committee has arranged for a fire engine to be on display with a crew in attendance to demonstrate to visitors their duties within the community in saving lives and protecting property.

The pig roast with all its trimmings will be cooked in time and the cold drinks gently chilled, the ice creams for sale in their freezer. Cakes will be baked ready for the tea tent and the ever-popular cake stall. A wide variety of items are being assembled for the tombola and bottle stalls. Jams and pickles will be made. Books, plants and birc-a-brac will be stacked on their stalls. All prepared to help raise the funds so necessary to carry out the work of the Church and Village Trust in the coming year.

Raffle tickets were distributed to all those present at the meeting with the hope of advance sales !

The theme of this year’s Fete will be ‘the alternative Olympics’ with many of the organisers dressed appropriately and the contestant obtaining the highest score in a ‘quintathlon’ of side show competitions will win a special prize.

Assured that preparation for the great day on 29th June 2008 were up to schedule the meeting closed at 10pm.

Pailton Village Trust AGM

The Village Hall Trust committee held their first meeting since their AGM on Monday 20th May.

The newly elected chairholder Lesley French led the meeting assisted by the new secretary Julie Blogg and two committee members.

The two new office holders signed the Trust Deed document.

Lesley reported on the success of the ‘Spring Serenade held on 17th May, this very enjoyable and well attended event  provided a profit of over £300 for the Trust’s funds..

There was much to be discussed concerning the planning of social events taking place in the village during the summer.

The next event will be the  ‘Open Gardens’ to be held on 8th June organised by the committee of St. Denis Church. This will involve the entire village with many gardens open for the enjoyment of neighbours and visitors. The Village Hall Trust will provide refreshments throughout the event from 2.30 to 6.30pm, serving cakes given by villagers and friends.

Our many duties to be carried out at the Summer Fete on Sunday 29th June were mentioned. A variety of stalls and activities are planned, the Village Trust will be involved throughout this very important event.
The ‘Old Time Music Hall’ evening held last year proved to be such a success that  the committee plan to present another show in the same vein this Autumn. More information will follow on this very enjoyable event.

It is hoped that at least one ‘Live and Local event will be presented during the autumn months. Lesley French has agreed to be the Trust’s representative to the Live and Local organisers.

Many thanks to Joanna Morris-Jones for this report
