On Monday 11 July the parish council held its monthly meeting at the village hall. Four councillors were present with the county councillor and two members of the public in attendance.
During the open part of the meeting concern was expressed about the most recent firework display which had taken place at the lake late on the evening of 4 July.
Reports about blocked drains on Lutterworth Road and Brookside were discussed and the council agreed to write to W.C.C. to request attendance to this ongoing complaint.
The use of the open area at Fox Field was discussed and the Clerk was asked to write to R.B.C. to establish its actual ownership.
A household adjacent to the playing field has complained about damage caused by footballs being recovered from their garden for which the council agreed to take action.
The ongoing subject of a parked van causing an obstruction in Rugby Road was discussed. The Chairman, Cllr, Palfrey, agreed to approach the driver.
Among the correspondence received was a notice about the new Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act which will enable parish councils to issue fixed penalty notices for offences including litter, graffiti and uncontrolled dogs.
The W.C.C. Community Development Fund was explained to the meeting and councillors were urged to identify any community enhancement scheme which might attract up to £5,000 from this year’s allocation which expires on 22 August.
Neighbourhood Watch is offering free issues of ‘Smartwater’ which is a fluid for marking valuables allowing stolen property to be traced. All present were urged to encourage the use of this advanced forensic aid.
The council was reminded that the next meeting of the W.C.C. Rugby Area Committee would be held at Rugby Town Hall on 28 July at 6.30 pm. All were reminded that questions could be lodged by the public at these meetings.
The agenda subject of planning prompted a long discussion about the development at Greenway Farm for which an explanation will be requested from R.B.C.
Cllr. Mrs. A. Moss outlined developments in preparation for the parish council being able to seek Quality Parish Council status.
The Chairman announced that the Parish Plan was making sound progress and that the results of the survey will be available very soon.
Cllr A.Gillias informed the meeting that the traffic calming scheme would soon be complete when the final road markings had been applied.
The long standing problem of heavy vehicles passing through the village was again raised. Following a recent question at a meeting of the Rugby Area Committee a letter had been received stating that any vehicle appearing to be delivering or collecting from Magna Park could be reported to the site manager who would ask the drivers to use other more suitable routes.
The next meeting of the Pailton Parish Council will be on 5 September.
The Village Trust has announced the result of the Fete held on 3 July. After expenses were deducted from the gross takings the profit was £2695.00 which has been divided equally between the Village Trust and St. Denis Church. The Trust wishes to thank all those who worked so hard to make the day such a success.
The County Council has advised the forthcoming closure of the B4112 Rugby Road when repairs will be carried out to a culvert close to the motorway bridge. Detours must be used between 8 and 23 August.
On Sunday 23 July a group of music lovers from the village joined the audience at St. Edith’s church, Monks Kirby to enjoy a delightful summer concert of choral music. The entertainment was provided by the Tony Gibbs Singers from Coventry, under the direction of their founder, who presented a varied selection of well loved compositions demonstrating the considerable talents of the mixed voice choir. During the interval the audience were invited to sample an appetising array of strawberries and raspberries, generously donated by nearby Malt Kiln Farm. Church warden John Collier thanked the visiting singers for their most proficient and enjoyable performance and reminded the audience of the forthcoming highpoint of the musical year when the Last Night of the Proms will again be staged on 16 and 17 September.
