Playing Field Improvements

Improvements to the equipment in the playing field are now complete.

PlayGround Supplies Ltd took just four days to transform the old surface under the swings and small roundabout to a new rubberised safety surface to match the existing surface beneath the multiplay system installed last year. The Village Trust can now offer a play area in which our children can take part in enjoyable, energetic activity and in which their parents can have the fullest confidence. The work of the Parish Council to improve the surrounding area, repairs to the benches, pruning of the bushes and hedge, new fencing and more frequent grass-cutting have made the playing field a very pleasant venue for local families to gather. We must thank the Rugby Borough Council and the Warwickshire County Council for the generous Grants which have made this work possible.

Autumn Concert

The end of the holiday season has given way to a programme of community entertainments to fill the darkening evenings.

The first and perhaps the most popular Autumnal event was the now-traditional Last Night of the Proms held at St. Edith’s Church, Monks Kirby. The programme took its usual form with a selection of patriotic music performed by the greatly popular Bilton Silver Band accompanied by local soprano Liz West in unsurpassed form. Now in its 13th year the concert was confined to a single performance on Saturday 15th September instead of the Friday and Saturday performances of previous years. Churchwarden Mr. John Collier, who introduced the performers, welcomed the particularly large attendance that had travelled from surrounding communities as well as many followers of the band from Rugby. Those who had made the short journey from Pailton were proud to note fellow villager Mark Latham as one of the instrumentalists. A new and particularly appropriate programme of music had been arranged by the director of music Mr Brian Clark who gave due credit to his younger performers who add a rare distinction of having three generations of the same family playing in the band.
