Few events create much turbulence in the unhurried life of our village but a change of management affecting our local pub has certainly aroused much interest.
It was recently made known that our highly respected village publican had finally decided to retire after a long and dedicated tenure in this most important of callings. Bernard Brindley, the jovial owner of the well-known ‘White Lion’ inn, has reached the stage where the prospect of retirement has greater appeal than serving the gastronomic needs of our local community as well as visitors attracted by his well earned reputation.
The White Lion is the survivor of some half-dozen public houses which once served our community and has been developed into the highly successful and popular pub with restaurant by the energy and high standards invested by Bernard and Lorna Brindley. The large number of patrons supporting the establishment give due testimony to their wide-ranging reputation as restaurateurs of the highest order which has raised them from local inn-keepers to a village institution.
Those
of us born to be slow eaters will forever appreciate the Brindley’s
rare ability to serve even the largest of gatherings with oven-hot meals of
the very highest standard.
It is pleasing to learn of their intention to continue living in the village
in their retirement.
Bernard will maintain a formidable interest in his past career in his capacity as Chairman of the National Parliamentary Commission of Licensees and Deputy Chairman of the British Institute of Innkeeping.
The announcement of Bernard’s retirement was accompanied by a generous party for his dedicated staff also by the news that the inn will continue under the new ownership of a group specialising in home cooking and real ales. We welcome the arrival of our new hosts Alex and Tony to this all-important position in our community
