On Sunday 17th February members of St. Denis Church made their way to the Parish of Willey to attend the Revel Group combined service marking the second Sunday in Lent. Worshippers from other churches in the Group had braved the freezing weather to assemble at the Saint Leonard Church service of Holy Communion conducted by the Rector of the Revel Churches the Reverend Christine Garrod, assisted by the Reverend Beth Smith and Reader George Lee with the address given by Mr. Ian Garrod. After the service the congregation was invited to enjoy refreshments in the warmth of the village hall.
Over the weekend many villagers commented upon their most enjoyable visit
to the recent performance of the Mikado staged at Rugby Theatre during last
week. An added pleasure for local enthusiasts was the prominent rolls taken
by two Pailton Thespians, Mike Handsford and Lesley French who featured in
the cast. These two talented performers added their usual lustre to this ever-popular
Gilbert and Sullivan musical which, in the spirit of modernisation, had been
skilfully adapted to take place in a bustling car factory with Mike Handsford
starring as KoKo the oppressive motivator. Once again the Rugby Operatic Society
attracted greatly deserved acclamations for staging yet another triumph of
provincial theatre for the grateful enjoyment
of their Rugby supporters.
