Warwickshire Police

On Monday 13th February Pailton played host to an important consultation meeting with Warwickshire Police staged by the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership of Rugby Borough Council.

Police Superintendent Mak Chistry, Inspectors Mike Fawcett and Gill Young together with a panel of borough councillors hosted a lively question and answer session with the emphasis on rural policing.

The unexpectedly large attendance consisted of local villagers and residents of surrounding parishes all concerned about the policing of our outlying communities. The police officers described their deployment policies to deliver the undertakings embodied in the Rugby Policing Manifesto introduced by Superintendent Chistry two years ago.

Theft from the White Lion

Following the recent break-in at Pailton Post Office, another similar crime was suffered by the White Lion public house on Saturday 11th February.

During the busy lunchtime period a group of young males who had been drinking in the bar were seen by a neighbour to don gloves prior to entering the rear of the building using keys stolen from within the premises. During a brief entry to the office a substantial sum of money was stolen before the intruders left in a car driven by an accomplice.

The police visited the scene later and were given a description of the intruders together with details of the getaway car by the owner Mr. Bernard Brindley.

This audacious robbery is one of a pattern of similar midday crimes suffered by several other public houses in the area.

Pirates of Penzance

During last week, theatre-goers from the village enjoyed a particularly popular presentation by Rugby Operatic Society of the much-loved Gilbert & Sullivan light opera "The Pirates of Penzance". This delightful performance was enriched by the appearance of our new resident, vocalist Mike Hansford, who played one of the star roles as pirate king, to the very evident appreciation of the large audiences.
