On Sunday 16th October many churchgoers from the parish joined other members of the extended Revel Churches congregation to attend the harvest thanksgiving service at our mother church of St Edith's at Monks Kirby.
The church was beautifully decorated with flowers and produce and greatly admired by the large congregation. The service was conducted by the Rector of the Revel churches the Reverend Christine Garrod, assisted by Reader George Lee and included the traditional harvest time hymns. During the address Christine described the uneven availability of food stocks throughout the world and emphasised the importance of sharing the abundant harvests enjoyed in the productive regions with the starving masses living in areas of adverse climates.
The service had been held earlier than the normal evensong so that it could
be followed by the sumptuous harvest supper which was held at the rear of the
church. Tables had been set out to accommodate the grateful throng of over
60 people who enjoyed an array of hot food skillfully served by the ‘Friends
of St. Edith’s’
At the end of the feast the Rector invited donations from the departing diners
which, together with the collection, would be given to the ‘ Hope 4’ charity
in Rugby which offers support to the homeless.
The village war memorial has now been completed
following the installation of floodlighting by Cllr Tony Gillias who has
contributed considerable
personal
effort towards its refurbishment. The completed project, now elevated into
a more commanding position and bathed in gentle illumination during the
evenings, provides a symbolic monument worthy of those to whom we owe so much.
