Routine checks on the Health and Safety and maintenance status of the hall
showed that no action is required at present.
Improvements to the swings in the playing field, by replacing the seats and
shortening the chains to correct their height, will be carried out soon. The
members commented on the great improvement that the parish council have
achieved at the playing field, completed recently by the laying of a path
leading from Coventry Road, past the playing field to the bridle path to Monks
Kirby.
The committee then discussed the programme of entertainment for the year
ahead. Arrangements were finalised for the Barn Dance to be held on 12 April
commencing at 8pm. An evening of energetic fun is planned with refreshments
served in the interval. Those attending are asked to bring their own drinks.
A musical evening is planned for May, This will be a blend of chamber music
and barber shop melodies to appeal to a wide spectrum of musical tastes. An
exciting and hilarious version of Race Night is planned for the later in the
summer. The very popular Old Time Music Hall will return in September with more
favourite acts brought to us by impresario Mike Allen.
The Trust has just received the list of performers in the Live & Local
programme, sponsored by the County and Rugby Councils, for the autumn months.
Bookings for the hall remain buoyant with groups of all ages and private
parties benefiting from the hall’s excellent facilities.
The Revel Churches are organising this year’s Daffodil Sunday
celebration to be held at Newnham Paddox on Sunday 13th April between 11am and
4 pm. Visitors will be able to enjoy the extensive parkland renowned for its
swathes of daffodils in a beautiful lakeside setting.
There will be a marquee where lunch and afternoon teas will be available
together with a variety of stalls of traditional appeal. The committee hopes
that visitors from near and far will come to enjoy this day of celebration.
The Pailton branch of Rugby Conservative Association held its Annual General
Meeting in Monks Kirby on 28th February.
The chair holder, Mrs Kay Pechal, gave a report on branch activities during
the previous year and announced the main highlights for 2008. The first
fundraising event will be a clay pigeon shoot and barbecue organised by branch
activists to take place on a farm in Nuneaton.
