On Friday 11 May Pailton Village Trust staged a most enjoyable event in the form of a Barn Dance.
The hall was suitably decorated with bales of straw and the many enthusiasts who attended wore casual country attire which added a traditional flavour to the evening’s entertainment.
The dances were arranged by John Merrigan from Rugby who is a seasoned organiser of this type of activity. He herded everyone onto the crowded floor for a rapid sequence of barn dances providing the necessary tuition and then acting as an American-style caller when the music started. The lively activity was exhausting as well as enjoyable with the dancers grateful for the drinks and hot dogs provided by the committee led by Maria Swindell and Helen Cunliffe. A raffle organised by Joanna Morris-Jones made a generous contribution to the proceeds which are to be directed to the completion of a play area for young children at the rear of the village hall.
On Rogation Sunday, 12 May the Revel Churches organised their ecumenical
walk.
It started at St. John’s Church, Brinklow and followed the footpath to
Pailton where a packed lunch was served by helpers of St. Denis’ congregation.
The two dozen participants then made their way to Monks Kirby then finally
to Willey where refreshments were generously provided at the village hall concluding
with a short service at St Leonard’s church. The Rector of the Revel
Group of Churches, the Reverend Christine Garrod and her husband Ian accompanied
the procession throughout its long and tiring journey enjoying the spirit of
togetherness and accomplishment unhindered by the constant rain which fell
relentlessly throughout the day
The Village Trust will hold their Annual General Meeting in the village hall on Monday 21 May at 8pm. All residents may attend this meeting and anyone willing to join the Trust and help in the management of the hall and arranging of village events would receive a warm welcome.
Fete planning meetings are well underway for the great event to be held
at the playing field and Pailton Club on Sunday 1 July. No effort will be spared
to make this a wonderful family day. Anyone wishing to help can telephone the
fete organiser, Stuart LeCornu on 01788 833854
