Parish Council Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Parish Council was held on Monday 6th March at the village hall.

Three councillors were present with two members of the public in attendance.

In the absence of the chairman, Cllr A. Gillias took he chair.

Village Hall Trust Report

During the open part of the meeting members of the Village Trust reported that the collapsed support wall beneath the hall floor had been repaired. The Trust has received a complaint about the proposed erection of goalposts in the playing field. Cllr Gillias will discuss the matter with the resident concerned.

Large Vehicles

The problem of large vehicles travelling through the village was discussed. Cllr Gillias, accompanied by a WCC officer, has toured the area checking road signs leading from Magna Park. They found that 10 signs were inappropriate and did not direct drivers of HGVs away from the villages. The County Council are to carry out a survey to consider imposing a weight restriction on the village roads. The long overdue control of heavy commercial traffic will be discussed at the forthcoming meeting of the Fosse Electoral Division to be held at Pailton Village Hall on 25th April to which all residents are welcome. It was also noted that there is a large increase in the amount of litter on the verges of the roads near the village.

Pailton Annual Litter Pick

The annual ‘Litter Pick’ will be held in Pailton on 8th April commencing at 10am.

Parish Council Issues Event

Councillors are encouraged to attend a seminar on 11 March at Myton School, Warwick to discuss topical issues for parish councils.

Rugby Borough Council is to be consulted on the planting of trees in the village centre. Members expressed concern that the grassed area round the war memorial had been damaged for a second time. It was suggested that a barrier was needed to protect the grass.

Best Kept Village

Members decided to enter the WRCC Best Kept Village competition encouraged by the improvements to the centre of the village.

Support for Bishop Wulstan

The County Council Local Education Authority thanked the parish council for their letter objecting to the closure of Bishop Wulstan School.

RBC meeting for Parish Councils

Rugby Borough Council is to hold the Annual Joint meeting of Parish Councils on Thursday 29th June in the seminar room at the Town Hall.

Pailton's Airey Houses

Rugby Borough Council has carried out a survey of residents who reside in Airey Housing. Plans are being drawn up for the redevelopment of the Airey Houses in Lutterworth Road. Cllr A. Gillias requested that the Housing Needs Survey section of the Parish Plan is completed with urgency so that the parish council can have authorised input into the design and intensity of the new homes. A meeting of the Parish Plan committee will be held soon to further the completion of the plan.

Grass Cutting

Grass cutting and road sweeping within the village was discussed. It has been suggested that the county council will fund the cutting of the verges if this work is undertaken by the parish council. Contractors are to be approached for quotations to cut the grass, cut hedges and sweep the roads.

War Memorial Rededication with Commemerative Flypast

It was announced that a special re-dedication service of Pailton War Memorial will take place on Sunday 23rd April at 12.30 pm accompanied by a commemorative flypast by a Spitfire and a Hurricane. The village hall will be open for refreshment afterwards when two Second World War veterans will be in attendance.

New members are always welcome to become involved in this very important voluntary group which takes such a vital part in administering the village hall and the playing field and organising local events.
