
The Parish Council held its monthly meeting on Monday 6th February in the village hall. Four councillors were present with six members of the public in attendance.
During the open part of the meeting members of the Village Trust reported that the repair to the hall floor will start on 14th February and that applications for grants were being processed to acquire funds for the provision of equipment for the playing field. The recently purchased goal posts will be erected when the most suitable position has been determined. A vote of thanks was extended to Clair Parfrey for her work for the Trust, she is to resign her post as chair holder at the AGM in May.
Cllr Gillias reported that the WCC is monitoring the speed of vehicles through the village. The county council has sent an ‘Action Pack’ to make residents aware of vehicle speeds including waterproof posters to be displayed in the village The traffic calming scheme throughout the village is to be reviewed by the County Council now that it has been in place for a year.
A sub-group of the Parish Council is to meet representatives of the Borough Council to discuss improvements to the village following the granting of Quality Parish Council status. The Parish Council could take over arrangement of street cleaning, grass and verge cutting, litter collection and other tasks giving them greater control over these services.
The Parish Council still awaits a report from the County Council officer on the problem of large vehicles going through Pailton to Magna Park. Cllr. Gillias has repaired the grassed area near the War Memorial which had been damaged by a heavy vehicle.
A document has been received from WCC outlining the formal consultation on the proposal to close Bishop Wulstan School. Members expressed concern and agreed that a letter should be sent to the Education Department in support of the campaign to retain the school.
Rugby Borough Council has commenced a ‘Village Voice’ scheme for their tenants. Volunteers are to represent rural tenants to discuss issues at meetings to be held once or twice a year. WALC is to hold seminars on the new Local Planning Development Framework in Leamington and Nuneaton.
Cllr. Parfrey reported that work was re-starting on the Parish Plan, the priority being the completion of the Housing Needs Survey.
Members agreed that the Coventry and Warwickshire Ambulance NHS Trust should remain as a separate entity and not be combined with other Ambulance NHS Trusts. The chairman reported that a draft letter was being prepared by those opposed to the proposals.
Cllr. Gillias reported that trees needed to be planted on the green at the centre of the village. This will be carried out in the spring.
The next meeting will be held on Monday 6th March to which all residents are welcome.
