Pailton Parish Council Meeting

The parish council held its monthly meeting on Monday 7th April.

Four parish councillors, the county councillor and 4 members of the public were present.

The chairman, Cllr A. Gillias, commenced the proceedings with an open session at which the minutes of the Village Trust were presented and several forthcoming social events announced. The AGM of the Village Trust will be held on 6th May.

A resident raised the subject of road surface maintenance in Brookside Avenue and was told by the clerk that a patching programme had been planned for the near future.

The subject of the recently closed village store and post office was raised and deferred to the sub-committee’s report later in the agenda.

An update on the progress with the parish plan was given by Cllr M Barnett who stated that the Rugby Borough Council had reviewed the draft document and that certain aspects were still under discussion.

The sub-committee formed to discuss the closure of the village shop and post office gave a report on progress and explained the result of the survey conducted throughout the village which had indicated strong support for the revival of this facility in the community. Cllr. P. Morris-Jones offered to place another national advertisement funded by himself in an attempt to attract a prospective buyer from further afield on the understanding that any response would be referred to the shop owners for their attention. This offer met with the approval of the council.

The clerk read out a list of circulars and correspondences received from various authorities.

Cllr P. Morris-Jones gave a brief account of county council activities stressing the opportunities for local communities to engage with the democratic outreach system operated by WCC and the Police Authority mentioning the topics discussed at the recent Fosse Locality Panel.

Cllr A Gillias gave a report from Rugby Borough Council mentioning the work of the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership also the efforts being made to reduce heavy vehicle traffic through the villages.

The parish council approved a donation to the Round the Revel publication.

Approval was given for supporting the campaign against the proposed closure of certain post offices for which the clerk agreed to obtain posters.

It was reported that funding had been obtained for grass cutting and that a local contractor had been appointed for the work.

It was proposed that welcome signs and decorative planters should be displayed at the 3 approaches to the village and the clerk was asked to seek quotations for their supply.

The AGM and Annual Parish Meeting will be held on 12th May at 7.30 pm. All are welcome to attend this meetings.
