Village Hall Trust

The Village Hall Trust Committee held a meeting at the hall on Monday 29th September.

The main item on the agenda was the forthcoming performance by the duo Plested and Brown who bring their comedy “Health & Stacey” to Pailton on Saturday 18th October at 8pm.   The bar will be open before the show and afterwards when refreshments will be served by the committee.

Tickets for this hilarious evening’s entertainment can be obtained from the box office (01788 833113).  All are welcome.

The committee expressed concern at the loss of some of their chairs used in the hall.  It was decided to purchase 10 more and hope that in future any items hired by villagers will be returned.

Matters concerning maintenance of the hall and playing field were raised.  The latch on the playing field gate has been repaired.  The problem of a broken gutter and dampness will be discussed with a local builder.   A grant from the Rugby Area Community Medium Grant Scheme has been applied for in order to improve the access at the side of the hall.  The tall holly trees will be reduced to about 4ft in height to form a neat hedge which can be more easily maintained.  The old wall, at present almost hidden by ivy, will be renovated.  The result of the application will be known in early December.

With safety of visitors, young and old in mind, a committee member has painted the edges of the steps from the pavement to the hall and at the end of the side path with white paint, making these areas easier to negotiate.

The Trust recorded a note of thanks to the Friendship Club for the donation of a clock which now hangs in the hall for the benefit of all.

The possibility of purchasing a tennis table for the use of the village was raised.   This will be discussed with residents and friends to assess the viability of making this facility available to individuals or forming a club, it will be an item on the agenda for the next meeting to be held on 10th November 2008.

Fosse Rural North Locality Panel

On Tuesday evening 30th September the quarterly meeting of the Fosse Rural North Locality Panel took place at the village hall.

The meeting was well attended from many of the 18 parishes which form the Fosse Division of the county council.

The Chairman, County Councillor Phillip Morris-Jones welcomed the opening speakers which included Inspector Dale Pritchard and Sergeant Karl Faulkner of Warwickshire Police who gave a presentation on safer neighbourhoods policing, crime trends and policing priorities.  Much emphasis was placed on the value of maintaining an active Neighbourhood Watch network, mentioning the two recent burglaries in Pailton as cases where constant vigilance can act as a deterrent.   This was followed by an explanation of the proposed Designated Public Place Order which empowers accredited officials to confiscate alcohol being consumed in public places.

Other items on the agenda included a briefing on the Leader programme which offers grant funding for community enhancement schemes.

The principal item on the busy agenda was the presentation by Mr. Rob Back of Rugby B.C. on the future of Rugby.   The Pailton meeting marked the last of six public consultations for which a descriptive booklet with questionnaire was issued.  It was noted that the parishes of the Fosse division most directly affected by the proposed housing development were Clifton on Dunsmore and Churchover.   The questionnaires are to be submitted to the Town Hall by the end of October.

The problem of heavy vehicle movements through Pailton and other Fosse villages was again discussed and those particularly affected were encouraged to submit details of offending vehicles on a monitoring form recently issued by the Traffic Projects Group of W.C.C.

It was again recommended that this ongoing complaint could be moderated by the erection of signage at the main access points designed to encourage use of the alternative trunk road network.

The next meeting of the Fosse Locality Panel will be on Tuesday 16th December 2008 at Clifton.
