On Sunday 14th December Pailton branch of Rugby Conservative Association held its annual mulled wine and mince pie gathering at Pailton House Gardens by the kind permission of Paul and Ann Davey. This popular event was attended by some three dozen members from the parish and surrounding communities. A spirited address was given by the prospective parliamentary candidate Mr. Mark Pawsey followed by a vote of thanks to the hosts and helpers by branch chair-holder Mrs Kay Pechal.
The new year has seen the village revert to its standard routine after experiencing an eventful and particularly memorable Christmas season. The activities commenced on 21st December with the Christingle carol service held at Saint Denis church. A mixed voice choir had been assembled and carefully trained by Patricia and Mark Barnett who led a programme of traditional carols to the evident delight of the particularly large congregation. The service was conducted by Mr.Richard Latham in the presence of our rector, the Reverend Christine Garrod who administered the blessing of the crib. Christingles were distributed to the children in the congregation as symbols of God’s presence on earth. At the close of the service mulled wine and mince pies were served to the congregation by Mrs. Ann Moss and members of the church committee.
The day provided another traditional attraction in the from of the annual carol service at nearby Saint Ediths Church, Monks Kirby, featuring the greatly popular Bilton Silver Band attended by members of the widespread Revel parishes and numerous visitors.
Residents had displayed a colourful array of seasonal decorations to their homes in preparation for Christmas day also for the lively socialising which has become an enduring feature of our closely knit community.
The sub committee of the parish council is progressing with a community-wide feasibility survey to determine the level of support for the possible re-establishment of a village shop and post office. Further discussions will include the possibility of obtaining funding towards a community owned enterprise which has proved successful in other villages.
A survey is
being conducted throughout the community to seek views on the proposed re-siting
of notice boards at prominent locations throughout the village. The
object is to create a wider coverage of parish council notices and community
information in areas most convenient to residents.
