Harvest Supper

On Wednesday 29th October a group of villagers joined up with fellow members of the Revel group of churches to attend the annual harvest supper at Harborough Magna parish room.   This seasonal celebration followed its customary routine of a nourishing feast of traditional home cooking accompanied by drinks from the bar then followed by a programme of lively homespun entertainment.

Those who have attended this un-missable event over many years never cease to praise and envy the theatrical talent which abounds in the parish.  The variety of musical numbers and hilarious sketches reduced the large audience to helpless laughter.  The evening concluded with a communal sing song ably accompanied by pianist Beryl Shaylor.

Theft from St Denis Church

On Sunday 2nd November the service of morning worship at Saint Dennis Church was followed by an anxious discussion by the congregation concerning the intrusion in the church in the early part of the week.   It was reported that someone had entered the church, stolen a cast iron wall plaque depicting the Last Supper, also the key to the rear vestry door.  The offence has been compounded by the placing of a bottle of communion wine on top of the connecting door to the vestry which narrowly missed a parishioner carrying our her duties in the church.   Had it fallen as she entered the vestry it may have caused a serious head injury.

The stolen plaque was of a typical Coalbrookdale pattern of much value to the church although of little commercial worth.   This greatly upsetting incident seems to be part of a recent pattern of offences committed against churches in Rugby town and the local parishes.   A full report has been given to the local police.
