Minutes of
the Pailton Village Hall Trust – 4th October 2004
Present: Chris, Tony,
Joanna, Clair, Gill, Carrole and Helen
Clair informed the committee
that Clive had resigned, as he is moving out of the village. The committee thanked
Clive for all his help.
The first of this season’s
events took place in the village hall on Saturday 2nd October and
was well attended (79 tickets sold). The band was very complimentary about
Pailton and its citizens after their performance. Tony also informed the
committee that he had received a telephone call from a Churchover resident who
thoroughly enjoyed the evening and stated they would be attending future
events.
The next events are on 20th
November – Fanny Craddock – The Life and Loves of a Kitchen Devil and 12th
February 2005 – Picasso’s Day Out in Sheffield.
Unfortunately, this winter
there will only be three Live and Local events due to building work on the
village hall, hopefully commencing in March 2005.
It was decided that the
committee should meet the Monday evening before each event to finalise
arrangements.
The heating in the village
hall is not working at present. Carrole to call in an engineer to remedy the
problem.
Work to improve the external
brick work will start on Tuesday 5th October.
The curtains have now been
put up in the hall, but as a result the curtain over the fire exit door now
covers the fire exit illuminated sign. A quote to be obtained to have this sign
relocated.
It was noted that several of
the recent acts have enquired about having a backdrop to the stage to help
absorb some of the noise and to make the acoustics better, they have also
requested spotlights, a quote is to be obtained
Some of the fluorescent lights
need replacing – a quote to be obtained.
The tables and chairs have
now arrived, table clothes to be purchased.
Joanna informed the
committee that she had looked into issue of VAT. The work on the ramp and the
disabled toilet would be VAT free.
It was noted that the grass
was in need of being cut - the Parish Council are obtaining a quote to have the
playing field grass cut included in the contract of the general village grass
cutting scheme.
As discussed at a previous
meeting, the football posts do not meet the legal requirements and must come
down. The Football Association has now written to all schools reminding them to
comply with the necessary regulations regarding football posts. Helen to speak
to Mr Turton to ask him what he would like to do the football posts he so
kindly donated and erected. It is the intention of the committee to purchase
new posts in the spring which comply with the legal requirements.
Members from WREN came to
visit the village today to look at our proposals for the village hall in view
of our application for a grant. This application now goes before the County
panel on the 13th October and if successful goes before the WREN
board in November.
Lottery Grant – as a result
of our grant from the Lottery, we have been invited to take part in their 10th
birthday celebrations. If we organise an event between now and the end of
November, they will publicise the event and supply us with Lottery birthday
posters etc. The committee to organise a Party Night on 13th
November 2004. It is hoped The Revelations will be performing, tickets £5 from
Clair Parfrey (833885).
Helen informed the committee
that she had received the latest directory of grants available from the
Council. Joanna to look at this document to see which grants the committee
could apply for.
The Village Hall Trust
Constitution needs updating, Chris to amend this document before it is signed
by the new committee.
Carrole to obtain a licence
for the 13th November 2004.
Clair and Helen to take ID
to the bank.
A.O.B.
It was decided that this
year’s Christmas Children’s Party will be held on 8th January 2005.
It is hoped that the adult’s
Christmas Disco will be either 11th or 18th December.
