Minutes
of the Pailton Village Hall Trust 2nd August 2004
Present: Chris, Tony, Kara, Joanna, Clair, Clive, Gill, Carrole and Helen
Apologies: None
The minutes of the previous meeting
were read and agreed.
Signatories are still not sorted out,
waiting to hear from Gary. Gary is to be
approached about changing the address to where the bank statements go. It was suggested by the committee that both the
Treasurer and the chair each receive a copy of the bank statement.
Monsters of Rock good night,
well supported, although a few complaints about the noise were received from the
neighbours, in relation to the practice night. In
future all bands are to be asked to keep the doors closed whilst practicing to keep the
noise levels down. The double glazed
windows will also help to reduce the noise once fitted.
Also anyone holding an event in hall is to be asked to clear away their equipment
as soon as possible, if not on the same day, the following morning at the latest, so as
not to inconvenience other hall users.
Karate Lessons due to the Avon
Valley situation, these lessons will continue to be held in Hall at 7.15pm on Fridays
until after Christmas. All comers are
welcome.
Tony reported that we now have fixed
dates for the first three events. These will
kick off with the band Jiggerypipery on 2nd October. They describe themselves as a Celtic rock
n roll band, with them starting off with a slow air or jig
becoming an irresistible beat by the end of the evening.
This band comprises of a bagpiper whos father was a Pipe Major in The Scots
Guards, and the drummer from the band the Boomtown Rats, along with 3 further musicians.
The second event is on 20th
November. Fanny Craddock The Life and
Loves of a Kitchen Devil. A one woman show
about the first celebrity TV cook who invented the prawn cocktail.
The third show is Trimming Pablo
Picassos day out in Sheffield. This
comedy play is the highly unlikely story of Pablo Picassos visit to Sheffield in
1950 and all the people he met including the local barber who got to cut his
hair. This comedian will play Pailton
on 12th February, 2005.
It is hoped our last act, which is a
band will be confirmed shortly.
It was agreed by the committee that
show goers will be able to buy a season ticket to all 4 shows. As last year, a season ticket will entitle the
ticket holder to a free drink at each show. It
was agreed that show goers could register their interest via the village web site (www.pailton.org.uk) or by contacting Tony/Chris
Grimshaw on tel: 832436. Clair to approach
Sue in the shop to see if she will agree to continue to sell tickets.
It was noted for future reference
regarding acts for the Hall, that even if we receive the grants to be able to carry out
the necessary work to comply with Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), it will always be
impossible for us to get wheelchairs users onto the stage.
Tony pointed out, that a lot of acts
in the brochure for Live and Local required a larger stage thus restricting our choice. Clive said he would make enquiries about how much
it would cost to purchase a further metre of staging, either portable that could be stored
under the present stage, or one that could be hinged from the front of the present stage.
With regard to the DDA and future
shows, Clair will be attending a Disability Action Planning Day in Warwick on 19th
August.
The stonework has now been completed
and the scaffolding removed.
The windows are the next priority, but
this work cannot be started until we hear whether we have received the grant applied for. We hope to hear the result in early September. If
successful this work should be able to start shortly afterwards.
Clair and Chris to contact Tina and
Andrew to clarify new chair and curtain order. It
is hoped both will be in place in time for the first show, even if we only have the stage
curtains up.
The fence between the playing the field and Mr Tresslers garden, has been fixed and paid for (£95) by the committee as a one-off gesture of good will. Clair has spoken to Mr Tressler and recommended that he report each act of vandalism to the police. This he has done and on this occasion Clair has also reported it.
The grass on the playing field is
being cut on a regular basis, but some areas do need strimming.
As a result of the recent council
inspection of the playing field equipment, it was pointed out that the goal posts failed
to meet all the necessary regulations. The
committee have decided to remove the goalposts at the end of this summer with a view of
purchasing new ones in the spring. These will
cost approximately £160.
The cost of replacing the tyre with a
brand new tyre required by the playground regulations will be approximately £25.
The WREN application is in the post. The lottery application has passed the first round.
Clair thanked Joanna for all her hard
work in preparing these applications.
The committee thanked all the
villagers who had taken the time and trouble to write supporting letters in relation to
these applications.
If we are unsuccessful in these
applications then we will not be able to carry out the DDA work, but will look at
purchasing a portable ramp to assist wheelchair users.
Carrole reported that she had applied for the necessary licences for the 3 events booked so far. These applications would be going before the Court in September.
Gary is to be asked to look into The
Employees Liability Insurance, presently we are paying for £10 million liability and
Public liability of £5 million.
Clair has received the bill from the stone mason. This is to be passed to Gary for payment.
A.O.B.
Clair distributed a document Access Statement for Pailton Village Hall, which outlines in plain English the work to be carried out in the village hall in regards to the DDA, if we are successful with our grants applications.
