Minutes of last AGM – Read, approved and adopted
Matters arising – See Vice Chair and Secretary’s reports
Maria reported that during the year Carrole Gillias, who had been a member of the committee for many years had resigned. The committee thanked her for all her hard work over those years and wished her well for the future. It was also reported that the Chair, Clair Parfrey, had also resigned. The committee thanked her for all her hard work, especially for the refurbishment of the hall.
Maria reported that use of the Village Hall had increased during year, with The Revellers Playgroup having moved from Stretton-under-Fosse to Pailton. They use the hall every Wednesday and Friday mornings (new toddlers always welcome). The Friendship Club now meet in the hall every Wednesday afternoon. The other regular users of the hall are: The Keep Fit Group, Patchwork Group, and the Karate Club.
Maria stated that there had been two Live and Local events during the year, Dr Teeth, our first sell out, in October 2005 and Caliche in November 2005. Unfortunately due to a shortage of funds we were unable to host a third event. The selection for the coming autumn/winter season has been submitted and we should hear some time in June if the committee’s selections have been successful.
Maria stated that the Village Hall can be booked at a cost of £8 an hour for villagers and £10 an hour for non villagers.
The committee thanked Sharon and John from the Village shop for all their help and support in many ways during the year.
It was reported that the refurbishment of the hall was nearly complete, with just a new curtain rail to be purchased and fitted. It was also reported that the committee had to spend £1600 repairing a collapsed under floor supporting wall.
Helen reported that the old goal post had now been replaced with a new one
to comply with current legislation.
She thanked Joanna and Gill for all their hard work in raising so far, £12,000
for the new playground equipment and reported that a further grant application
for £6,000 had been submitted. The playground equipment the committee
wish to purchase will cost £20,000. If the last grant application is
successful, then this will be achievable, with the committee putting in the
remaining cost from their budget, if not, then the committee will look at
which piece of equipment not to purchase.
Helen confirmed with the Parish Council that the playing field grass would be cut under the general village grass cutting scheme.
Helen stated that there were 431 comments made about the Village Hall and the playing field in the Parish Plan questionnaire. The committee had looked at all the comments at some length. Some of the issues had already been addressed, others were in the process of being addressed. Others were added to a wish list, if money could be raised and some were noted but that nothing could be done e.g. adding a car park to the Village Hall, or moving the playing field to the centre of the Village. The committee are always willing to listen to new ideas and solutions.
Helen thanked John Cunliffe for all his hard work in updating the web site with the Village Hall events and publishing the minutes of the meetings.
Helen reported that last year the committee had raised the cost of renting the hall for one off users, but due to increasing maintenance charges, mainly gas and electricity, this year the committee were seeking approval from the AGM to increase the rental charges for the regular weekly users from £4 per hour to £5 per hour. This was approved. Also, to increase the charges for the Live and Local events to £7.50 for adults, £6 for concessions and £4 for under 16s. This was also agreed.
Tony distributed and talked through the accounts. He thanked Dick Moss for auditing these and noted his comments.
Helen to raise the issue of funding from the Parish Council at their next meeting. Last year the Parish Council donated £500 to the Trust.

A villager commented on the decoration of the hall and that in places it needed repainting. The committee agreed and will look into obtaining some paint so that it can be touched up.
Zoe Baxter asked if it was possible to put up pictures of the Village in the hall? The committee agreed that as long as the pictures were of Pailton or the surrounding area then yes.
The area at the rear of the hall was mentioned. The meeting was informed that work had already started to tidy this area and that the weeds were due to be sprayed this week.
Julie Blogg said that she would be donating a stair gate for the bottom of
the stairs
in the near future.
Date of the next meeting is Monday 22nd May 2006 at 8pm in the Village Hall.
