CORE - Council of Older Residents, we have been up and running in Rugby for 8 years. We are now well established and our aim is to ensure that the views of older people are heard within Statutory and Voluntary organisations, one way in which we ensure this is by having representation at many of the meetings to enable the older persons perspective to be heard. Over the past eight years our group has been very successful at influencing organisational decisions, such as the placement of sand bins within sheltered accommodation to help avoid slips and trips.
There are many occasions that organisations such as Rugby Borough Council and Rugby Primary Care Trust require groups and individuals of specific ages, cultures, geographical areas etc, to assist them with their consultation process, by giving views and ideas on the impact documents, policies and practices could have on the older generation.
The 50+ age group represent a large proportion of the population and have the capacity together to influence decisions that they feel would enhance or may be detrimental to their age groups.
If you as an individual, members of your group or all
of you as a group, would like to join us, you would be entered onto
a database, to be consulted on papers, documents, legislation and other
issues
relating
to our age group. If you would like to be more involved there is
an opportunity to attend CORE meetings and also become a representative. Examples
of meetings the group already has representation on are Disability, Care
and
Repair, Crime Stoppers, Patients Advisory and Liaison Service, Rural
Transport etc.
"CORE" was formed under the auspices of the Rugby Area Planning Team
